For BIEN 2025, a series of site-specific sculptural works borrows its titles from the language of commerce and its forms from the decorative features of Layer House and its environs. Margins used papermaking processes to reform the trimmings of adjacent artworks as beads and to recreate the fresco borders of Layer House. Swapping Leopold’s pigments for textile dust gathered from hand and machine production processes, the reconstituted cloth hangs from structures coated with iron oxide, the dust said to have once stained Jesenice, one of BIEN’s seven cities. Reforming the sweepings of factory floors and sewing machines, carpet shavings, and the white cotton work coats of conservation, the work explores ideas of invisible labour, lost industry, care and value.
